OAK Street Spotlight
Each month, OAK Street Initiative is pleased to highlight a non-profit organization whose mission and work aligns with the values and principles of OSI.
This November, OSI shines the spotlight on American Foundation for Firearm Injury Reduction in Medicine (AFFIRM), the country’s leading 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to ending the American gun violence epidemic through the public health approach.
As a Philadelphia based emergency physician, OAK Street Initiative founder Dr. Kevin Baumlin personally sees the toll gun violence and firearm injuries take on victims and families. Dr. Baumlin believes AFFIRM’s work is critical in both ending the gun violence epidemic and in increasing firearm safety. Through research, evidence-based practices, partnerships and education, AFFIRM has a goal of reducing gun-related threats, injuries, & deaths in the U.S. by 50% in 5 years and the medical community is at the center of this work.
